Grand Prix - 7th and 8th April 2007
|
|
The end of an era - the last ever meeting to be
held at the Beeston site. The committee had decided
that the last ever meeting should be a Member's
only 2 day meeting with a bash day on the saturday
and a race day on the sunday. New members were taken
until the wednesday before the meeting, resulting
in 46 rallycross and 14 truggies running over the
weekend. The track used was the National layout
from the previous week's national, so plenty of
runtime !
Saturday
was a chance to run your buggy or truck or truggy
to get track time or fine tune that setup ready
for sunday, brian "I'll tune your engine"
ward was available and most took up his offer of
help during the day. Some brave souls opted to stay
saturday night and were treated to a bbq and huge
bonfire and camp fire singing led by kelvin and
others followed by some dodgy club music !!
There
were a few casualties sunday morning but most made
it to the start line at some time during the day.
The intervention of the council resulted in 2 x
10 min qualifiers, followed by 30 min finals for
everyone. The day ended with a bbq. Jamie Armstrong
won the rallycross class and Keith Harris
won the truggy class
Trophies for the top 15 from the Badlands series
were presented.
Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and it was a
fitting reminder why most of us got into this hobby
for the fun and friendship. The next few weeks
will see everything transferred to the new site
at Westmill Farm, Ware, and the final preparations
to the new track.

Badlands Challenge 2006/7 - Final Report
|
|
Unfortunately, the recent heavy rain had lead to
the cancellation of round 6 of the Badlands Challenge.
Due to the forthcoming National meetings and imminent
closure of the Sandy track, in consultation with
the sponsor , it was decided not to re-run the final
round and use the existing results with best 4 from
5 to count.
Congratulations to Sam Taylor on winning
overall, top three qualifying drivers were Clayton
Collins, Jamie Armstrong and Jim Thompson.
Dave Duggan, CML, presented these three drivers
with their prizes at the National Warmup meeting.
The final finishing position for the top 15 were
as follows:
Proline Badlands Challenge 2006/7:
1st:
Sam Taylor 396 pts
2nd: Clayton Collins 361 pts
3rd: Jamie Armstrong 359 pts
3rd: Jim Thompson 359 pts
5th: Gary Clancy 358 pts
6th: John Geaves 352 pts
7th: Steve Mutley Johnson 348 pts
8th: Keith Harris 338 pts
9th: Mark Gregory 337 pts
10th: Chris Smoothy 330 pts
11th: Matthew White 322 pts
12th: Tom Saggers 321 pts
13th: Scott Banks 310 pts
14th: Karl Jackson 298 pts
15th: Mike Pascoe 294 pts
15th: Paul Smith 294 pts
There were three different round winners, Sam Taylor,
Clayton Collins and Karl Jackson. Karl had been
unfortunate as he had 2 wins and a third place going
into round 6 and was the only challenger for overall
position to Sam Taylor.
There were 116 different drivers entered and the
choice of tyre had worked well, coping with most
conditions with little wear.
Thanks to CML and Proline for the
series and prizes.
Trophies for the top 15 have been donated by Models
in Motion and will be presented at the Members
Grand Prix at Easter.
In addition, there will be trophies presented for
the top 5 truggy places, kindly donated by Stot
Shells.

Badlands Challenge - Rd 5- 18th Feb 2007
|
This
was the fifth round of the 2006/7 Proline Badlands Challenge
series at Sandy, kindly sponsored by CML and Proline,
with Proline Badlands tyres being the control tyre for
rallycross entries.
With several other meetings being cancelled today and
other big events on the same day as the National warmup
on 11th march at Sandy, there was a lot of team drivers
who were using this meeting as practice before the National.
Weather has been very wet earlier in the week but continued
track maintenance by the service team meant the track was
reasonably dry for the 100+ drivers in attendance. The meeting
also had two heats of truggies running with truggies now
being a regular class at Sandy.

3 driver's bumping up in 15min finals, results as follows:

Badlands Challenge - Rd 4- 21st Jan 2007
|
|
This
was the fourth round of the 2006/7 Proline Badlands Challenge
series at Sandy, kindly sponsored by CML and Proline,
with Proline Badlands tyres being the control tyre for
rallycross entries.
With several other meetings being cancelled today and
both the 2007 Rallycross National warmup meeting (11th
mar) and the first round of the 2007 Rallycross nationals
being held at Sandy (1 April), there was a lot of team
drivers on the entry list.
Weather has been very wet just before the weekend resulting
in lots of puddles for the supersize aquavac to
remove, which it did very well with the help of a work
party on saturday morning (thanks mark and steve). Strong
winds and drying conditions meant fast times for the 60+
drivers in attendance. The meeting also had a heat of
trucks and truggies running again, truggies look set to
be a regular at sandy from now on (thanks santa !! )
There was 3 rounds of qualifying with 6 heats and the

Badlands Challenge - Rd 3 - 17th Dec
|
|
This
was the third round of the 2006 Proline Badlands Challenge
series at Sandy, kindly sponsored by CML and Proline,
with Proline Badlands tyres being the control tyre for
rallycross entries.
This meeting was a good opportunity for club drivers to
gain extra points as most of the team drivers, including
the current series leader, Karl Jackson, were away
attending the 3-day Neobuggy invitational meeting at Harper
Adams for both rallycross and truggies, competing against
some of the world's best drivers' .
Weather has been very wet just before the weekend resulting
in lots of puddles for the new supersize aquavac
to remove, which it did very well. Slight frost overnight
and drying conditions would mean some fast times for the
30+ drivers in attendance. The meeting also had a heat
of trucks and truggies running for the first time, tyre
choice being open, as several drivers had come up from
the southend track to get their trucks/truggies dirty
!!
There was 3 rounds of qualifying with 4 heats and the
top driver bumping up in 20 min finals, results as follows:
Rallycross:
C-final: S Johnson, R Gray, P Burgess, S Webb
B-final: J Thompson, T Saggers, S Johnson, M Gregory
A-final: C Collins, J Armstrong, J Thompson,
G Clancy
Trucks/Truggies:
A-final:C Larner, C Hampson, C Reed(Bois), P Dawes

Thanks
to the boys for making the journey up from Southend, we
hope that the cleaning afterwards does not take too long
and look forward to seeing them again soon at Sandy !

Christmas and happy New Year to all drivers

Badlands Challenge - Rd 2 - 26th Nov
|
This
was the second round of the 2006 Proline Badlands Challenge
series at Sandy, kindly sponsored by CML and Proline, with
Proline Badlands tyres being the control tyre. The weather
leading up to this race had been very wet and there was
concern , upon arrival, whether racing would be possible.
However, with lots of hard work and the filling of many
buckets from willing members and volunteers, a track was
prepared beneath darkened skies. Unfortunately, some drivers
decided to forgo racing, which was a shame as the weather
improved and stayed good all day with strong winds drying
the track quickly. There were 28 drivers, including quite a few team drivers, who decided to
race. The Losi Eight had a good showing again with four in the A-final. There was 3 rounds of qualifying with 4 heats and the
top driver bumping up in 20 min finals, results as follows:
C-final: R Oldman, M White, R Pugh, D Banks
B-final: R Oldman, B Ward, M Gregory, C Hampson
A-final: K Jackson, S Taylor, B Ralls, S Johnson (Losi)
A big thanks to Luke Geaves who manned the tea room all
day.
The top 15 from the Summer series were presented with trophies, kindly donated by Models-in-Motion.
The next round on the 17th December is likely to see the inclusion of trucks and truggies to the Proline Challange !

| East Anglian Interclub Rd 4 at Gt Yarmouth, 15th Oct |
|
Over 25 drivers made the journey to the track at Gt Yarmouth
for the final round. This would be an opportunity to see
several members try out their Losi eight's. The track
is dirt and grass similar to sandy with table tops, several
double and triple jump sections. The track was slightly
damp to start with drivers using rats but the track quickly
dried as drivers changed to small block tyres such as
crimefighters, grips or chameleon. Well done to Marty
and co for the food and a great day out. There was a free
raffle at the end with prizes from Helgar, Kyosho, Proline,
CML, Models-in-Motion and Anglia Model Centre. Congratulations
to Sandy and Sam Taylor on winning the overall and individual
championships, full details available here:

| Annual Team Endurance event , held at Slough this year,
8th Oct |
|
Over 25 drivers made the journey from Sandy to the track
at Slough in an effort to bring the event back home, as
Slough had won at Sandy last year ! The aim is for a team
of up to 5 drivers to do as many laps as possible in 5
hours, the pro teams having to keep ONE buggy running.
The track is dirt ,similar to sandy ,with table tops,

slightly damp to start with drivers using rats but the
track quickly dried as drivers changed to small block
tyres such as crimefighters or knuckles. Well done to
the sandy teams, who all experienced highs and lows during
the 5 hours. Congratulations to Team Mugen on winning
the event with the new Mugen MBX5R, full details available
here

| Summer series
2006 - Rd 8 and East Anglian Interclub Rd 3 - 24th
Sep |
|
This
was the third round of our East Anglian Interclub meetings
with Norfolk buggy club.
Current points standing before the meeting were Sandy 1644 and Norfolk
1592.
Individual driver standing were Marty Smith (GY) 198 , Chris
Waters (GY) 192 , Jim Thompson (SA) 189 , Keith Harris
(SA) 188 and Clayton Collins (SA) 188,
Weather was dry to start (unless you were coming from
Norfolk) with 46 drivers in attendance, once again a one
hour lunch break with accompanying bbq. Unfortunately, heavy
rain arrived for the first round making the track wet and
sticky (cleaning was difficult ! ). However, the weather
improved for the second round and the track dried quickly
giving plenty of grip. The changing conditions meant tyre
changes and engine tweaks were necessary to keep on the
pace !
Three rounds of qualifying with five heats again kept
the marshalls busy. All finals were 20 minutes long, top
four finishers were rewarded with a bump up as follows:
E-final: P Saggers, J Cannell, K Manning, P Reaing D-final: R Pugh, J Symonds, B Folly, G Duffy C-final: R Gypps, J Geaves, B Allanson, S Baker B-final: M White, M Baron, T Saggers, J Hall A-final: S Taylor, J Niall, C Smoothy, J Thompson.
There was a raffle at the end with prizes donated by Proline,
Kyosho and Models in Motion. Provisional end of series results are posted pending Jim making a few minor edits ! Thanks to Marty and the
guys for making the long trip and look forward to the 4th
meeting at Norfolk on 15th October
